Eat noodles learn to play guitar
Teachers are not supposed to have favorites, but there are always some that stick out. I have been lucky in the way that even the least charming of my students has always displayed moments where if they are not entirely likeable, that at least I don’t want to ping paperclips at their heads. I’ve never done that, but I had a teacher who did, and we had no trouble telling who his favorites were. One of my most challenging students was one who always volunteered information that in no way had anything to do with the topic at hand. One day we were working on a project about the Andes Mountains and he was quite vehement about getting my attention. When I called on him, he said, “My dad said I could learn to play guitar” I responded with, “I had noodles for lunch.” This seemed to make him happy and he returned his attention back to the mountain range.
